Cal Tech vs. MIT

If you HAD to choose one, which is better? Cal Tech or MIT??

They are very different schools. It depends on your prospective major as well as the type of environment you are looking for.

I would go to MIT.

It depends on your style, do u like the warmer smaller atmospher of cal tech
or the larger east coast MIT

I would say if I had to pick between the two I would go to MIT = bigger more research

but its a tough one...

either way if you really have to choose between them you have a good life set up for you

"If you HAD to choose one, which is better? Cal Tech or MIT??"

Choosing which one to attend is far different than which one is "better"

I would personally go to MIT, for I was born in Canada, live in Arizona. I want to get away from the climate and I think MIT is....somehow better.

MIT is the best school in the world.

MIT, even though I live in California. I'd like a big atmosphere.

It's different for each person. Which school is better for more people? I'd vote MIT. go on a visit and make your own choice. Or if you can't visit, talk to people who have been there.

I'd say CalTech, just because everybody has said MIT. The reason being that since everybody wants to go to MIT, your chances are lessened considerably, even if you're fully qualified to go.

cal tech or mit...yale or harvard...ucla or usc...coke or pepsi..

theyre both awesome, but one's slightly sweeter. ;-)

CAL TECH.

For me MIT is a better choice

Cal tech = engineering/ MIT = engineering, business, and more!

Um... Caltech is arguably the best school in the nation for pure science...?

If I was going to major in the sciences, Caltech would easily take the cake. It has the most rigorous classes (as argued in an older Caltech vs. MIT thread) and since it's small, students get more attention and opportunities for research.

Cal Tech = California Institute of Technology
MIT = Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Difference between the two: California vs. Massachusetts. MA: frozen, cold, 47 ft of snow, etc. CA: the surf, the sand, awesome weather, etc.

Both are amazing schools; I agree w/ ptmagnolia. I'm CA born and raised...and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon!

MIT all the way. Cal Tech has like 300 ppl in their freshman class v. around 1300ish for MIT....hence mit has more diversity, you'll meet a lot more different people.

There are plenty of threads in both the Caltech and MIT forums discussing this very question.

As an MIT student, I don't think I'd ever frame the question as "which is better" -- it really is a question of what's better for the individual who's asking.

Haha, I can only wish/hope I get to choose between Caltech and MIT <<by the="" way,="" cal**t[="" b]ech="" -="" little="" t,="" one="" word="">>...I would love to go to either one, but MIT's closer and I'm more familiar with it, so I'd have to say MIT. </by>

batman32c, snow is cool. Surf and palm trees are cool too, but snow is cool. ^__^

I've been accepted to MIT, and don't yet know about Caltech, but as of right now I'd lean towards MIT for sure.
