It’s November. I will answer anything you guys want!
They did extend their deadline to Jan 31st this year, but make sure to turn in your app by the end of November!
However, I won’t reveal my major because we have like <4 people in my major who transferred!
It is really easy to find out who I am. And I know one of them lurks around here.
Few strong advices for anyone is:
-There are American Culture/History/Institution requirement for Cal.
Go to assist.org -> Select UC Berk & your school -> Find these under “For General Education/Breadth”
-Be careful if you should follow IGETC or not.
IGETC is very crucial for L&S. L&S requires you to finish IGETC. The folks in your college will say that IGETC isn’t a requirement- but more like a guideline. It’s definitely a requirement for schools like L&S.
But there is a case in which IGETC isn’t a requirement but recognizes IGETC. Like CNR (College of Natural Resources). Some majors in CNR takes IGETC as a fulfillment for their major requirements- like Society and Environment. IGETC clears out Reading/Compo, ESPM Social Science Core, and other general breadth courses for most of majors within CNR.
Engineering/Chemistry are different! These schools do not accept or recognize your IGETC. They have their own guideline for General Breadth and it is a graduation requirement, but not an admission requirement (for L&S it’s a requirement for admission). You do need 60 credit to transfer- so don’t just fulfill your major requirement and think you are good to go.
Luckily, HAAS has 7 breadth requirement (basically same thing from L&S) similar to IGETC - https://haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/breadth_list.html
Just follow the 7 breadths (it is without the foreign language part) but again, you can fulfill it afterwards so it’s not a locked-in requirement like L&S.
(Not sure about CED!)
- Also, yes, you can double major after you transfer. Say you want to do English and Sociology, but don't know which one to apply as? Pick the one you feel the strongest (say you have 4.0 in all English major requirement courses) and make sure you know what to write for your personal statement for how you've prepared for English.
Any questions, I will follow up
