CAL v. Georgetown

For a political science major, what's better? CAL or Georgetown?

Cal by far, I googled the rankings for polysci and Cal is ranked in the top 5. Georgetown is ranked 39th.

Although Gtown’s location may give its students a slight advantage as far as career development goes.

Really? I’m shocked with that statistic considering how many heads of state and elected officials have come out of Georgetown. Now…I’m confused

eager to know too

Whats your overall goal with poly science? Living in the DC metro area and going to UMD (near Georgetown) you can really see that the opportunities for poly sci majors are plentiful.

I’d like to internships in DC. Don’t know exactly, but I’m interested in IR. I plan to go to law school, and then possibly delve into politics after. Not like a politician, but something to do with that field.

hey that poli sci ranking is really awkward, because georgetown is #4 in Government (there is no poli sci at gtown) but yeah Berkeley is #2, so at that ranking there is no really diff. The #39 mustve been a long time ago or something. Occ, I dont know if it makes a diff, but many gtown grads will say location, location, location. At berk, u can get some awesome teachers, as can you at gtown. But it depends HOW you want to learn govt, and what u wanna get out of it. For a more international scope, Gtown can be supreme, and so can the opportunities for internships. Fall/Spring internships are significantly easier to get than summer internships in D.C. and You would be right in D.C. Ask the GAAP students at gtown and they can tell you that they have been interning in dream positions since they were a freshman at gtown because of their availability was not so restricted and they were available to lend themselves to the changing need of the offices. Lobbyist row is also very biking distance which is a top choice of internship places for gtown students if u dont wanna go all the way down to the hill.

I think SFS (academics + location) is easily comparable to anything Cal has to offer.

Thank you, JGee. Now I feel more confident in my decision. Will you be going to Wellesley this semester?

i just went to boston… i loved it but the finances are falling a bit short, they gave me free tuition but i still have to live… and berkeley gave me 13,000 dollars on top of free tuition…which sort of makes a HUGE difference. that is free rent.
I really dont wanna work full time and go to school part time. I want to be part of the campus real bad and take advantage of everything like music lessons to crew to student orgs. I dunna.I dont think I will go to W, if I dont get more money to live there.

I thought they covered all need.

yeah but apparently they determined that I didnt need a place to live that is close by the campus =P or housing, but i can eat for a couple hundred a month, and those financial aid counselors arent calling me back
