Hey guys!
I’m planning on majoring in bio and doing premed, but i’m a little stuck between these colleges. I currently live in Norcal, and plan on visiting WashU, UCLA, and UCSD over spring break, but i just wanted some input from you guys.
Aside from cost, which of these is probably best for premed? I know that a high GPA is really important to get into Medschool, so I’m hesitant to go to LA or Cal.
How hard is it get a high GPA at each of these schools?
How is the social life and environment?
How is the premedical advising?
Thanks for your input!
Because Wash U St. Louis is private, you would probably get better individualized advising and may also have a better chance at research opps. I’ve heard it is an academically very rigorous school, so I don’t know that your GPA will be any better there.
But given that the premedical advising is better there, and it would be equally rigorous at UCLA, Cal, and Wash U, going to Wash U would make the most sense right?
I agree that WashU would make the most sense in your case in terms of advising, support, etc.
However, for a premed, cost is very important. So… what’s your net price at each?
Wash U would be 45 k, while Cal would be 33 k, including housing and everything

I found this really helpful about WashU. It sounds like they have grade deflation there so it may be difficult to get a high GPA but the review basically states that it’s worth it and that med schools take into consideration the grade deflation at highly astound schools. This consideration would presumably apply for UCLA and Cal too though.
^ don’t know why the link keeps messing up. Sorry about that. Just delete the **** and put studentsreview
^no, it wouldn’t. There would be NO allowance for attending UCLA or UCB. UWash, I’m not sure but mayyyybe.
Can your family afford the 12K difference based on income+savings? Do you have a college fund?
Considering how expensive medical school is as well, I feel like Wash U would be too expensive. I am now leaning towards UC Davis since I got regents and am in their honors program there. Davis would be 24k compared to 45k at wash u
Ucd sounds like a great choice, both financially and academically (since Regents gives you some perks, too !)
