Since I’m naturally inclined to dislike Cal, I suggest you go to LA.

it’s most important that you find a campus that you like, but from an academic standpoint berkeley’s EE dept is top 1~3, and UCLA is top 15~20.

in general, Berkeley’s engineering is far superior to UCLA’s.

I’m thinking social life might be better at UCLA, but if you’re looking for opportunities down the road (jobs, grad school) Cal is a good choice.

You know that Cal’s EECS is one of the best programs in the country (rivaling Cal Tech and MIT). Should make the decision easy enough.

If you get into EECS at berkeley don’t worry about UCLA

to help you decide:

if you are a hot female than you will have engineers crawling all over you and will pretty much reign supreme for 4 years that you are here. some engineerds will be very awkward around you but you have them twisted around your pinky…

Firapira, are you a girl?

Firapira, strange comment

to the OP:

Berkeley pwns UCLA in engineering, especially EECS. I would definitely choose Berkeley in this instance because you will have more flexibility in deciding whether you want to concentrate in EE or CS or both at Berkeley…at UCLA you’re stuck in EE

Berkeley EECS grads get many, many job offers from the hi tech firms in Silicon Valley and you have an upper edge to grad school at MIT or Stanford

UCLA might have a slightly “better” social experience, but Berkeley EECS will prepare you for success

I don’t think a hot girl would want to date Berkeley guys…

It’s like Angelina Jolie was possessed to pick up a hobo on the street just because she knows she could “get” him.

^except these hobos will be making 6 figures in the near future.

^except that judging from hmmmmmmm’s past posts, all he cares about is money.

^except that post #13 is a logical response, as if you were to give a hobo a 6 figure job, he wouldn’t be a hobo anymore.

I went to both schools, but for English. I think campus culture speaks for a lot. Will you have a car? If no, don’t go to UCLA, because you will feel a bit more stuck. Berkeley has better food, better cheap shopping. If you like to have deeper conversations, go to Berkeley. If you, well, don’t, go to UCLA.

I can also say that school ranking does say something. Berkeley was number 1 when i went there, for English, and the classes were just more dynamic, the level of thinking was more sophisticated.

UCLA is still a good school. Good sun, smart people. More party atmosphere, but that’s not saying much, really. They are both serious schools.

I’m not sure you’d have a better social experience at UCLA. If you want to live in a dorm, as I understand it, for most freshman that will mean living with 2 other people in a 9 x 12 room (at least in the residence halls–I don’t know whether the other housing options are better, or even available to freshman).

UCLA is in the middle of a VERY expensive area, so unless your parents are rich, if you live an an apartment, you will probably live at least 3-4 miles from campus and have to drive to school every day. (You can’t get by in LA without a car.)

At Berkeley, they are also putting many freshman 3 to a dorm room, but the traditional residence hall dorm rooms (Units 1-3) are roughly 13 x 14. (Not sure about the other dorms, or the suites in Units 1-3 in terms of what is available to freshman).

If/when you want to live in an apt, you should be able to find something more affordable than UCLA within walking distance of the Berkeley campus.

UCLA has better weather than Berkeley. Berkeley is an easy BART ride from San Francisco, which is an awesome city–LA doesn’t compare.

And yes, I’ve attended both schools.

^except that that was pretty hilarious lol
