hello! i was accepted into berkeley fall admit undeclared but plan on majoring in business/ psychology. i was accepted into usc's business school under the business/ cinematic arts joint program and was accepted into nyu's stern business and would concentrate in entertainment media technology.

first off, cal is my favorite school. been my dream for the last few years i love it there. HOWEVER, its been my dream forever to get into the film/ entertainment industry. however, im not 100% on that and am interested in neuroscience/ psychology and environmental business as well. still, i love film so much and i think it would be my perfect environment.

with that, does anyone have any idea on which school i should go to?! im stuck and my decision is in a WEEEK!

side notes, nyu gave me 15000 and usc like 3000 but i think usc's program might be more legit for the film industry. money is also an issue but i think i would incur the debt if its for my future career. im not a huge fan of nyu's lack of campus and school spirit but it is effing nyc so it would be awesome. and im not a huge fan of usc's trojan pride and fratty social scene. i think berkeley is my perfect fit. but in regards to film, i think i would be in love with usc and nyu because im super interested in that business.
do you have any input!?! thank you so much!

If you’re really set on getting into the entertainment industry, it is obvious that you should go to USC. The business opportunities for entertainment at Cal are very few. At 'SC, you would be in the right area to learn and get internships/jobs. For the entertainment business, like any other business, it’s about who you know. At Cal, I wouldn’t even know who to talk to about film experiences. Our film department is more theory than practice. Even our practice, aka CalTV, sucks.

i’d say go to NYU. although, it WAS my dream school for a year so it may be biased lol jk. they gave u a LOT of money! and they dont do that often. they are very tight on financial aid. also, whether u choose business or film at nyu, you’ll be set for either one. it’s the world’s best place to live in : ] u cant go wrong. undergrad and grad school are in a phenomenal location. if i got into nyu and cal, idk what i would choose…probly nyu because it’s private and there’s a lot less people. but idk i love berkeley now too. i never liked it before but mostly becuz i didnt think i would get in. i love the way everyone is out and there’s like homeless people on the street, i know that sounds weird lol but it makes it that much more of a “city” type feeling. kind of like new york!

but yeah…id say nyu! education and financial situations are good for u there.

^ whoa, whoa, don’t take this advice. NYU has 50,000+ students and NYC is a way different environment from Berkeley, although your program sounds small. If you’re really really serious about entertainment, I doubt Cal is what you’re looking for. The film production program isn’t…much.

film AND business ARE good at NYU. u can basically become successful if ur motivated there, in both majors. and yeah ur right…film isnt that great at berkeley. the most famous ppl have gone to nyu, and i looked through cal’s…i didn’t see a single name that i recognized.

NYU=
alexis bledel-gilmore girls
anne hatheway-princess diaries/bride wars
mary kate and ashley
lady gaga although shes in music
adam sandler
i went to a broadway show and the girl there was from NYU

but what about usc? it seems this turned into nyu or cal. and the 12000 difference gets smaller by the travel fees from orange county to nyc. and it appears that usc’s program is really solid. im trying to squeeze some more money out of their financial aid. it really is a tough decision

I got into both NYU and Cal as well, and was deciding between the two. I really wanted NYU because, well it’s New York! And the opportunities for internships there are amazing, with Wall Street and Broadway and the headquarters of so many of the world’s companies.

But I didn’t have the money for NYU - I’m international so no financial aid for me. And living costs in NY will scare the pants off you. So Cal it is! Besides, I’ve been to Cal before, and found it fantastic.
