hi, does anyone know that we need to declare our major again in orientation in ucb college of letter and science ?(if we get in tomorrow). will we have a chance to change to a different major from what we put on the application?
anyone know?? anyone????

thank you!

I heard they give you one semester to declare your major!

I know that when you enter you have to officially declare after you finish all requirements to declare. For instance, if I get in I will be "pre-political science" because I applied for political science. I'm not sure of how easy it would be to actually switch majors but I assume it wouldn't be that easy, especially since we're entering with junior standing.

I applied as a Spanish and Portuguese but now I wanna do Sociology. Can I switch? Is it possible?

If you completed the prerequisites for Sociology then it is possible I believe.

it is very difficult to switch majors when you first enter Berkeley.

for sociology they allow you to declare after you have signed up for Soc 5 during orientation and you don't have to wait to complete that prereq. If you do not declare right away, you are at a disadvantage because most upper division classes give priority to the major for that department and you will not be able to get into those classes until you either declare or wait until the end of Phase II which means that you will not be able to get into most of the classes. I highly recommend declaring in your intended major, getting adjusted at Berkeley and then switching majors or double majoring if you are able to.

What about statistic major? i put chemical biology as the intended major on the application. however i finish the precourses for statistic. will i have a chance to declare a different major during orientation?
