"Jackson caught one of Nate Longshore's three touchdown passes and returned a punt 65 yards for his most electric score yet, leading No. 16 Cal to a 45-24 victory over 11th-ranked Oregon on Saturday night...

These West Coast powers have similarities ranging from their intertwined coaching staffs to their high-octane offenses, but Cal coach Jeff Tedford easily landed his second victory over former mentor Mike Bellotti in front of a raucous sellout crowd -- a rarity at Memorial Stadium, where even the laid-back fans realize something special could be brewing.

Tedford has turned Cal into a football power -- but it's still Cal.

Cosmologist George F. Smoot, who won the Nobel Prize in physics on Tuesday, was introduced before the game to the cheering student section, which chanted "Nobel Prize! Nobel Prize!"

Taking that one step further, Professor Smoot could also make a great mic-man. Think of the conquering-hero reception that Chancellor Birgeneau receives when he appears in the student section. A Nobel Prize-winning professor urging us to get loud on a crucial third down would be an image that students, and visiting Oregon fans, would not soon forget.

I dont know why they said students were chanting "nobel prize, nobel prize". We were chanting "Smoot!, Smoot!, Smoot!". The other one sounds dumb. Anyway, that game was crazy. The crowd was so loud the entire game, the next day I couldnt talk cuz I was yelling so much.

I was there like 45 minuets before the game. My roommate never heard people say that either. Maybe it was on the other side of the student section.

I heard it from the alumni section, I also heard the smoot chant...the dance off at half time was the best halftime stunt I've ever seen...classic.

yeah, the roast duck sequence was great. I know some alumni were ****ed because the half time show incorporated the great satan from across the bay, but personally I think any time is a good time to dig the Furd. I couldn't believe the size of the student section. When I went to games in the dark ages (late nineties) there may have been a few hundred students there at most...

Did anyone notice that the graphics at the beginning of the game screwed up the Cal name and called them the California Golden Ducks! Shame on you.
