Hi, My daughter just got off the wait list to CalArts (acting). We are from the east coast and have never visited the campus. We are going to see it next week but obviously we will not be able to meet any current students. Would anyone be able to share thoughts on the community? What are the kids like? Would you say they approach their craft with rigor and discipline, or is there a more laid back vibe?
Any insight would be much appreciated! thanks

Hi, jennydb. I would say that the program is very professional, rigorous and demanding. My S and I visited several times and he was in love with the campus, the location and the program. There is a current student who goes by @milkshakespeare who posts here…and she gave us very good info about the school and the program. Maybe she will see this and chime in or you can send her a message.

I know of one student from my D’s school who goes there now (rising Senior, I think?). While I can’t speak to it too much, my D keeps track of him on social media and he seems very happy and busy and involved. He’s kind of an edgy/quirky/funny actor with an aptitude for Shakespeare, so definitely at home there.

Congratulations! I bet it was exciting to get that call!
