CalArts film program?

Hi guys! So I am currently a freshman at a CSU and I am thinking about transferring for Fall 2016 or maybe even Fall 2017. I have about 4 schools on my list so far (USC, Chapman, Emerson, and NYU), but I’m still in the process of deciding if I really want to apply (I feel like I’m just really lost right now). I was thinking about CalArts, and I’m curious about whether they focus a lot more on the portfolio aspects than academics during admissions, and what it would be like pursuing a film BFA rather than a BA like I would at the “traditional” universities I was planning on applying to. Any information would be great. Thanks!!!

What is your career aspiration? Your list of transfers is quite expensive for tuition where do you see yourself financially as a transfer? Old info (2010) but d was advised cal arts was more “artsy” than mainstream film production. Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

^___ Excellent questions to ponder and to use to help you decide.

wow yes those questions are really helpful to think about, thank you! I think the financial thing is a pretty big deal for me especially because in a year and a half my brother will also be starting college. At my current college, I am being taught more on how to be an independent filmmaker and how to enter film festivals and such, rather than how to get a job at say pixar or dreamworks, etc, which I think is what I’m leaning more towards. All I know for sure is that I would like the program to provide access to equipment.

Consider LagunaCollege of Art and Design. dd took a figure drawing precollege class last year and we were extremely impressed. Their job placements are excellent, and their students entusiastic.
