I have my CalArts audition this weekend - my first BFA Acting audition. Thus far I've only auditioned BFA MT. My monologues are prepared, etc, but this is going to be a new experience. What is the CalArts audition like? What should I bring? What should I be prepared for? How long is it? What questions (if any) are you asked? And how do you introduce your pieces? Will they just ask you what they are or do I announce them?

Hi Sassystage
I have had 5 students audition at CalArts so far this year and it has been pretty chill! (My son also auditioned for them last year) When you arrive you will be asked to fill out a form and it will have questions similiar to your artistic statement prompts. After that there is an info session about the program that takes about 45 minutes. Following that you will be taken downstairs to wait your turn and you will be given a space to warm up before your audition. After your audition you are free to go! Hope this helps - it’s a great school and program - Break a leg :)

Chrissyblu wrote a good narrative about her daughter’s on campus audition in 2009. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/638659-calarts-audition.html

Wow! Thanks so much, I did a search through the forms on CalArts but somehow I never saw that. Very useful :)

We went to the on campus Cal Arts audition today with my son - very informative, very relaxed, yet all business. The scope of what they do and how they do it cannot be seen from a website or a brochure. My S felt the audition went very well. The campus is nice though small, definitely a community of artist. As my son would say, "There is a incredible vibe to the school.
