Calc 1 at community college as senior in high school

My daughter took AP Calc AB as a junior in high school. She got an A in the class but did not get a 4 on the AP exam. She has test anxiety so she did not complete the exam in time. She is thinking she should take Calc 1 at a community college in order to get credit for Calc at Northeastern. She plans on being in the Direct Admit Nursing Program. Will it look bad to basically repeat the same math class in her senior year at a community college? She will also take AP Stats at her high school. She would like to try and get the Calculus credit done before entering Northeastern as she is a recruited athlete. It would reduce her course load.

How about applying for accommodation of 1.5 time, and retaking ap exam in may? Or CLEP exam, if theyll take it? Be sure to check
since many highly selective colleges wont give credit for AP, CLEP, or community college classes.

The test accommodation can be carried forward into college, so it is worth obtaining even this late.

The community college class is free and I think it won’t hurt her to retake it. Northeastern shows that they accept the community college class on their website. The CLEP does not satisfy her math requirement. Thank you!

Student- even those that passed the AP exams sometimes choose to repeat the courses so it won’t look bad but be aware that cc classes are usually a semester long so the entire content will be covered in less time with tests and exams but since she has taken the classes before, it should be an advantage. All the best

Absolutely no problem with your approach. She will be done with Calc 1 by December and can focus on AP Stat in school for the second semester.
DD did not even take Calc in school. We figured out that one semester in CC with tests, midterms and final is much better option than one AP exam (with other AP exams).
Actually, we opted for no AP exams… It turned out that DD program does not take AP exams at all, but we could not know.

That’s a good plan. Many colleges understand that college calculus is faster-paced than a HS class and passing the class WILL make her 1st term in college easier, as a college athlete or not. It will not be held against her at all.
