hello i need some help making a decision
i was admitted at LSA for class of 2022 at umich. currently i’m taking AP calc in school and plan to take the calc AB AP exam. i have a B in the class and i’m feeling a little unsure about what math class i should take next year. i’m not that good at math and i’m not struggling in calc AB, but it’s not easy. how is calculus 1 at umich? is it much harder than in high school?
pls help
For a lot of people Michigan math is much harder or at least more detailed. You will take a math placement and it will put you in the appropriate math class.
If you are struggling with AP Calc AB, you will likely find Math 115 difficult.
A lot of it depends on your HS. AP Calc AB in high school was tough for me, but I got an A+ in Math 115 at UM. A buddy of mine breezed through AB in HS, yet flunked Math 115.
Everyone seems to think their high school was the toughest in the nation until you actually take a class at UM and see how prepared you are, so unfortunately there really isn’t a clear cut answer for you.
Calc 1 is fairly easy since it’s the most basic math course at UM. I think it’s required for most majors. You should be fine if you’ve taken calc in high school and plan to work hard in college!
