I'm a sophomore right now in precalculus, and was wondering if taking calc 1 at a local community college and then calc AB at my high school was possible. Its not that I'm not good at math, but I am "retaking" classes in order to prep for regional, state, and national competitions through Mu Alpha Theta, which I find very fun. Also, it would help me with passing AB, as the teacher is supposedly "hard."

If you feel it would be helpful, then go for it! Or, you may even want to take Calc 1 at the college and then BC if your school offers it.

Otherwise, AP Calc AB is suited that you don’t have any previous calculus knowledge, so don’t feel as though it is necessary as a prereq for AB. [In a perfect world, those two classes would be the same (but one may cover a few select topics not in the other, etc.).]

It’s probably better if you take one or the other (taking both “Calc 1” and “Calc AB” would be a drag since they’ll cover almost exactly the same material). A good sequence would be Calc 1 → Calc BC or Calc AB → Calc BC.
