Calc 1 or Calc 2 for McIntire?

I'm am currently a first year planning on applying to the Comm school. For the calculus prerequisite, I already have AP credit for Calc 1.

Would it look better/increase my chances if I took Calc 2 next semester?
Or should I just use my AP credit to fill the Calc 1 prereq. and forget about Calc 2?

They’re going to look at your overall course rigor and grades. This means if you take an equally challening class is some other department it is just as good. Unless – you want to concentrate in finance – then they suggest to take more math. Calc 2 is notoriously hard here, I wouldn’t put yourself through that if it is unnecessary and of no interest to you.

Most people who don’t make it into com school end up as econ majors. I believe you need to complete the second semester of calc to be an econ major. Check that website to be sure.

Hazelorb: are you saying that math 1220 is that hard, or are you talking about the 1300 series? My son is in 1210 and is probably taking 1220 next semester. I believe it uses the same textbook.

1300 (the series for which you receive AP credit) is hard wrt calc 2. 1200 series is not as hard at all.

Yeah calc 2 is required for the econ major. I’m not sure if I should take because it would be good to have just in case I don’t get into the comm school. On the other hand I don’t want to screw over my GPA. My roommate dropped the class in the first week and another friend who’s still in it is pretty much failing.

Like I said above,

math 1220 meets the econ requirement, as well as most requirements for most other departments. Can you take that instead of the 1320?

I could take Applied Calc 2, but it says that Applied Calc 1 is a prerequisite. I think I’ll just wait and see if I get into the Comm school. If I don’t, I’ll still have time to take calc 2.
