Calc AB and BC tests scheduled at same time; how to take both?

If you are taking calc AB and self-studying BC how can you take both tests? They are both scheduled at the same time--May 9, Wednesday morning.

I'm assuming there's a way to do this or why would there be a thread about self-studying BC while taking AB.

The Cal BC test gives you a Calc AB subscore. Does that help?

You can’t take both exams in the same year. If you want an AB and a BC score, take the BC exam.

So by taking the BC test you could wind up with, say, a 4 or a 5 on AB and not do so well on BC?

Schedule one as a make up exam. The same has to be done with Physics B and Mechanics.

Thanks. In case anyone else is interested I found info on the College Board site about “late testing.”

[AP Late-Testing Schedule](2024 AP Exam Dates – AP Central | College Board)

And,

[AP Exam Coordination - AP Late Testing](Late-Testing Policies – AP Central | College Board)

Which states in part,

Reasons for late testing:

No additional fee:

Conflict with International Baccalaureate (IB) exam
Conflict with state-, province-, and nationally-mandated tests
Disabilities accommodation issue
Emergency: bomb scare or fire alarm
Emergency: serious injury, illness, or family tragedy
Language lab scheduling conflict
Religious holiday/observance
School closing: election, national holiday, or natural disaster
Strike/labor conflict
Three or more AP Exams on same date
Two or more AP Exams on same date and time

Additional $40 fee per exam:

Academic contest/event
Athletic contest/event
Conflict with non-AP and non-IB exam
Family commitment
Ordering error
Other school event
School closing (local decision, non-emergency)

It would be pointless taking both Calc AB/BC the same year (if it’s possible).
BC gives you a subscore for the AB portion and it’s possible to wind up with a higher subscore on AB opposed to BC.

It’s not pointless if you’re taking AB in a school that requires AB as a prerequisite for BC, you realize that you’ll be bored in BC going over much of the same material again, and that it’s manageable to self-study the additional material for BC.

When I say Calc AB/BC, I’m referring to the tests. My school refers to those courses as Calc I, Calc II, respectively (and they let select students go from precalc->calc ii).

Collegeboard will NOT let you take both tests in the same year, not even late test it.

The thread is there so students who wish to take Calc BC can do so while taking calc i (some schools offer calc I senior year, therefore never taking calc ii or even bc in high school).
It also offers a challenge to students who do so.

You are correct, the College Board explicitly states that they will not allow you to take the AB and BC tests the same year. The school in question requires the AB course as a prerequisite for BC. But when I looked at the textbook, there was a chart outlining which portions of the book were for AB and which for BC, and there wasn’t a huge amount dedicated to BC. Then found the thread here about self-studying BC while taking AB, and after I saw that both tests were at the same time, it was natural to ask the question–before I knew there was an AB subscore on the BC test–about how you can get credit for both in the same year.

But thanks for pointing out the prohibition on taking both tests the same year.
