{Penn gives no credit for AP Calc AB...

Should I still take the AP test then?

I really wouldn’t, unless you have never taken an AP before and want to get a feel for a three-hour long test. I don’t think it is worth the money if you know you can’t get the credit.

how bout u just give me the 87 dollars and we’ll pretend u took it.

DON"T TAKE IT!!!

so taking the AP test will do nothing for me?

In the future… if I apply to med schools… or anything… they wont care about my ap tests?

i didn’t say that but honestly do you think med school is going to say wow this kid got a 5 on the ap calc ab test or wow he went to upenn. dont waste ur money

tru. but thats what im askin. if it will somehow help me down the road. why not take it? or is it completely useless?

If you are a senior, it doesn’t make any difference. If you’re a junior, it will act as a way for admissions committees to see how you do in pressure situations that require specific knowledge (not like the SAT, which requires only general knowledge)

Have you already been admitted?

If you haven’t been admitted into Penn yet, I would suggest taking it because it will demonstrate your proficiency in a way they haven’t seen yet.

If you’re already in, Calc AB is the equivalent of MATH103 here at Penn – if you’re in SAS, you may or may not need MATH104 (I know some who have filled the math requirements with more… unique math classes to avoid taking more calculus), if you’re in Wharton you’ll need MATH104, and if you’re in Engineering or Nursing, you’ll probably need above and beyond MATH104.

If you’re confident in your abilities, nothing is stopping you from coming to Penn and jumping right into MATH104 (Calculus BC) – whether you take or don’t take the AP test isn’t going to stop you from registering, and if you got an A in the class I honestly wouldn’t bother. Heck, if you wanted to, you could just study and test out of MATH 104 altogether.

Hope that helps you out, and let me know if you need any clarification.

so do not take the AP test because it will have no benefits? Is that what all of you are trying to say?

*On a side note. I did get accepted. But I am trying to transfer internally to wharton. In that case, would it be beneficial to show them the AP calc score (since they love calc students?)

Well if you are trying to transfer into Wharton it won’t matter because they only consider GPA and you need to have already taken math 104 because it’s required.
