So I'm planning out my high school senior year schedule, and I'm debating on whether to take AP Calc BC or AP Biology. I want to eventually go to medical school, possibly majoring in biology or chemistry and minoring in business. (And if we look far enough, I'd possibly want a dual-degree MD/MBA, but I'd like to keep my options open as I progress through school) :) I'm already taking AP Calc AB, AP Chemistry, and AP Stats as a junior. Any advice would be appreciated. Grazie.

take both?

Not enough space on my schedule…

What I’m researching is that while many medical schools require 2 years of Math, they also accept AP credit so long as the classes appear on the final transcript. If I can pull off 4s or 5s on my Calc AB and Stat exams, then maybe I will never have to take Math again. Taking Biology might allow me to advance to upper-level classes in college or even have it easier if I decide to retake General Biology in college in preparation for the MCAT…

On the other hand, some calculus is useful for business, and I find it to be an interesting, applicable subject. Some colleges require 2 years of calculus (AP credit or none) …

If you can’t fit them… What I did was study AP Calc BC by myself and took the test without taking the class. I think for science… they do a lot of labs and some of them show for free-response question.
So my point is take AP Bio as a class and study calc by yourself

I got a decent score (4) which is not too bad considering I studied without any help from a teacher.

Well, I will be majoring in Bio, then hopefully med school so i see where you’re coming from. I took Bio AP as a junior, and got a 5, which leaves me the option of skipping a semester. I am taking BC this year and hope to get a 5. Though I may have gotten a 5 on bio, I sure as hell won’t remember most of it come fall. I guess I don’t really have a solid answer; it would depend on the class materials and difficulty in intro bio/calc classes. Talk to a bio student at your college. If I had to pick, though, I would say take calculus, because Bio “101” in college will show you how interested you are, and also give you a better grounding in the subject, as opposed to someone like me, who won’t remember most of it.
