Calc BC or Stats?

Okay some background info: I'm about to enter my senior year and I'm aiming for UCB, UCLA, and UCSD like every other Cali kid. I'm thinking about majoring in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.

I received an A in Algebra 2 sophmore year but due to scheduling conflicts I ended up in Precalculus CP junior year. CP kids can't go to Calculus BC but only AB so I at first intended on taking Calculus 1 at a nearby community college over summer to clear the prerequisite.

Now my question is, would it look more prestigious if I took calculus 1 over summer and continued to Calculus 2 in my senior year and took AP Stats, or should I just take Calculus BC. I would prefer to take Calculus at the community college because then I can take multi-variable, differential equations, or linear algebra in the spring (and I can reuse my textbook), but college acceptance definitely comes first.

What do you guys think? AP Stats and Calculus in community college or Calculus BC?

I just took AP Calc BC and its really not that bad and not much worse than AB. I maintained an A all year. I would personally suggest that because I've heard from other kids that AP Stats is just not a good class for whatever reason though I don't know your teachers and such. When it comes to their significance to college admissions, I have no idea....

If you want to major in math/sci, take Calc BC.

If you're looking to continue in a stronger math field, I would take Calculus BC. Statistics, though, is not that much math, rather... statistics. more wordy. Statistics has a lot to do with engineering/business so its also a good choice to take. If you can't take both, I would probably just go with Calculus BC because frankly, Statistics is just easy and Calculus can be progressed on.

I know that by themselves, Calc BC will look better than Stats.

What I was wondering about is whether taking Calc at a community college and AP Stats would really look better than me just taking Calc BC, because obviously I'm learning much more from the first choice.

I doubt your college acceptance will hinge on this singular decision. They just want to see you get into Calc and master it. Whether you do it at a local CC or by taking BC, matters much less. However, if you see real educational advantages of one over the other, as opposed to just which seems more prestigious, then pick the one that benefits you most from that viewpoint.

Not necessarily. Community college calculus courses usually don't teach calculus to as much depth/complexity as AP Calc BC... most of the time not close.

BC is legit
