hey thanks guys, so im in 11th grade and 4 math im taking pre-calc i know its bad. But i really wana go to wharton and will it look really bad if i take ap stat next year and do ap calc on an online course. I wouldve taken it this yeer but the teacher is an idiot and i h8 her. Also, is there any online courses i could even take it on?
Thanks

i spoke to a upenn's admissions officer earlier this school year concerning wharton, and he said calculus is an absolute must! Don't bother if you haven't taken it, so that's a heads up.(unless you're uber godly in some other regard) So you must inform them on your application, possibly explain your circumstances most definitely. AP statistics isn't inherently difficult so it's not a viable replacement. rather than go online for calc, you can try a community college

so would it be ok if i took calc next year?

Yes, absolutely take Calc in your HS if you want to be seen as a viable candidate. Hate your teacher? That's too bad. But reality is you can't always choose your bosses or workmates or clients in the future too. Consider it "Wharton" boot camp. Maybe it'll turn out better than you're dreading. AP Stats is seriously lightweight compared to the tens of thousands of kids who will be taking AP Calc next year.

Please consider this option. Best of luck to you.

Here is another point of view: for engineers, some schools prefer you take Calc as a freshman in college. I specifically asked this question of chemical engineering department heads during 2 college visits, and they both indicated that you would have to be very persuasive with them to NOT take Calc the first year in college, if you took calc in HS. So, if you want to go to Wharton, you should specifically ask them their view.
