Calc Necessary?

I'm in high school and will not have the opportunity to get through calculus, only pre-calc. The Penn websites says that they look for individuals who "will have taken Calculus during high school." Is this necessary for all students?

I’m not sure if its necessary for CAS and nursing but definitely for Wharton and SEAS. By the way, precalc isn’t calcus but you should continue with the hardest course load your school offers.

Here’s an equation for you: No Calculus = Huge Problem

Unless your school does not provide calculus at all… in which case _____ is right, take the hardest math courses available and explain this somewhere in your application.

It depends on the school. I was accepted to CAS on transfer without Calculus[although I was planning at the time to major in Chemistry which is Calc necessary]. Not only had I not taken calc or precalc in high school, but I was also down a year of college.

I think SEAS and Wharton[wharton for sure] want calc. But it never hurts to try anyway.

Not taking calc will not hurt you as long as you don’t want to major in anything related to math. I am a PPE major in the college and I never took calc in highschool (only precalc) and I do not plan on ever taking it at penn
