I'm choosing my classes for my senior year and I have a choice of going to calculus or AP stats but I really don't know which one I should take. ... calculus teachers are really bad and the AP stat teachers are really good. I'm taking pre-calculus right now and got a B- last semester. (obviously, I'm not very good with math...)

Which class do you think I should take? Any suggestions? Any reviews about the courses?

thanks =(

Statistics kinda sorta isn’t really math. More like how to use the statistical functions of your calculator.

BUMP
same question…
same grade.
same dilema
but im ok in math

i had the same choice, but it was junior year so i took calc AB followed by AP stats senior year. some colleges prefer that you have calculus

i’m taking both…if i had to pick, i’d pick stats

Calculus, f’sho. Take stats over the summer at a cc?

it depends where you’re applying. if you’re not applying anywhere ambitious go with stat. if you are, go with calc and get your grade up!

Statistics is easy. If you need it you can take it in college. Calculus is more difficult, and if you’re not good at math you may want to take it in high school before retaking in college.

Thanks for all your responses! Most of you said that stats is easier than calc… and that I should take calculus. But all the calculus teachers in my school sucks so that’s I’m being really indecisive right now. I was planning on applying to ambitious colleges, but taking calculus and getting a bad grade might really lower my chances. But at the same time, taking stats after taking pre-calc might look bad as well. Would taking a calculus class at a cc be a bad choice? Would it be harder? (my high school is really really competitive…)

thanks again T-T

I think you should definitely take Calculus. Since you said the Calc teachers at your school suck, maybe you could get a private tutor to help you once a week with things you don’t understand and lessons. That’s what I do currently for my math class because I have a sucky math teacher.

I think it depends on what you want to get out of math. If you want an easier class where the topics you learn will be more applicable to everyday life, I would take stat. I would venture to say that Calculus is harder (I’m in it currently), but I think it’s a lot more thought provoking than stat…and that’s coming from someone that has not liked math in the past.

im leaning more towards calculus now. i think im gonna hire a tutor to help me too. thanks for all your suggestions.
