calculating cumulative GPA for multiple high schools ??

My son attended two different schools -- one for freshman & sophomore year,
and one for junior and (pending) senior year.

School one calculates an unweighted GPA using only grades 10 and 11.
My son didn't attend grade 11 there; no GPA shows on the transcript.

The GPA shown on school two's transcript is only for courses taken there
in grade 11.

For the purposes of college application / the Common App, how do I calculate
a cumulative GPA? Do I include grade 9? And should I include study skills
(i.e. - 'remedial') courses? Per school policy, these courses were assigned
a grade at school one and appear on the transcript; they don't even appear
on the transcript for school two.

I would use the grades from the transcript to calculate a combined GPA using the a=4.0 scale. I would include grade 9. Colleges will decide what grades and years to use themselves.
