Hi, my name is Stanley Cooper. I am finishing up my first semester as a junior at Coral Glades High School. Not taking into account this semester my gpa is a 3.3 unweighted and a 4.3 weighted (but I got a 3.75 and a 4.8 both quarters this semester.) What will my gpa look like once this semester is taken into account. Assuming I get the same grades second semester, what will my gpa look like at the end of the year? Thanks a lot!

Really? That’s a question I would put on a seventh-grade math test. In fact, just last week I did a question very similar to that, but actually more difficult, with an Algebra I student whom I tutor.

Assuming you’ve taken the same number of classes every term, you can just average your semester grade-point averages, and you can treat the first four semesters as if they were all 3.3/4.3.

After this semester, your unweighted GPA would be (3.3 + 3.3 + 3.3 + 3.3 + 3.75)/5, and weighted would be (4.3 + 4.3 + 4.3 + 4.3 + 4.8)/5.

^ I guess the math grades are pulling the GPA down.
