Hello,
I just have a question about GPA in college admissions. How do the Ivies recalculate a student's GPA when he applies? Do they differentiate between an honors course and a Pre-AP/AP course? (my HS does) Does having many credits (I'll have 35.5 credits when I graduate) give me an edge over other applicants? What GPA would this be considered by colleges? (freshman year)

Precal Pre-AP- 96
English 1 Pre-AP- 99
Biology Pre-AP- 100
Art 1 Regular- 97
Technology Systems Regular- 95
W. Geography Pre-AP- 99
Spanish 3 Pre-AP 99

Also, does anyone know how to calculate college GPA? I am so utterly confused when I hear that it's possible to get a 4.0 in college because I thought that means you get 100 in every one of your university classes.
Thank you so much in advance.

If you get straight A's in college, I think that's a 4.0.

I think there's a misconception that a percentage directly correlates to a value in the 4 point scale.

YEEESSSS!!!! Thanks so much, nbachris! All this time I was thinking that college GPA varies with percentage. What a relief! I was worried I'd not be able to get into med school. So it's not THAT hard to get a good GPA.

Btw, could anyone tell me what my actual GPA is from the stats I gave 3 posts ago? I'd really appreciate it.

using the UC GPA calculation system, it's definitely a 4.0 unweighted (assuming ur school counts those 95+s as As, of course)

What's the UC GPA calculation system?

UC GPA system gives a score to each letter grade for ur classes (strictly, it only calculates sophomore and junior yr, and certain classes...) A-4, B-3, C-2, D-1, F-0 (also, strictly... it's calculated semester by semester

u multiply ur score (4,3,2...) by however many credit hours ur courses are, add up the multiplication results, divide by ur total number of credit hours, and u get ur GPA! (unweighted...)

Are the grades I posted above Harvard-worthy?

can't really tell... if u can maintain those grades throughout high school... yes (with AP/honor courses, of course) - if not, find another strength, strong writing skills, deep passions, board contacts... it's all good

just a question... is your school really grade inflated cooljoe because all those 99s and 100 are intimidating. i mean i get grades close to that, but jeez
