calculating major GPA

When you calculate your major GPA, do you only count the classes that are required for your major? Would you also include relevant electives/upper level courses that aren't technically required?

I'm a chemistry/biochemistry double major, so there's a lot of overlap between my two majors. The chem major requires some extra upper level chemistry classes, and biochem requires some extra bio classes. If I don't count the extra chem classes, my biochem major GPA is higher than if I were to count them. And since I'm applying to biochem programs, I'd like that GPA to look as high as possible, but I also don't want them to think I'm trying to mislead them.

I’m going through the same thing.

I think it’s a little unfair how they’d ask you for your major/science GPA w/o any guidance on how to calculate it. If that’s the case, then just enter whatever highest combination you can calculate. However, I’ve noticed most don’t even ask for major GPA, but they might calculate it for themselves. Some ask for you to enter your Jr./Sr. GPA, which is much more straightforward.
