Does your major GPA include your grades in the lower division prerequisites? Or only the actual major requirements after you declare?

major gpa is just upper division courses taken that apply to your degree. at haas, for instance, we calculate it by only considering (all) upper division UGBA courses that the student has taken.

if you’ve taken coursework outside your department but they still apply to your major, then you also have to take those into account. the only scenarios of these i can think of are:

(1) an elective outside your dept. used toward your degree, or
(2) a course taken outside your dept to satisfy a req and was used as a “course equivalency” (like taking econ 100a in place of ugba 101a)

some people only calculate courses that have that department, e.g.: “math gpa” using ONLY courses from the math dept. then that’s another way to interpret it, but that is usually what people do when writing on their resume to boost perception.
