Calculator broke!!! Which one should I get for Calc/Physics???

My ti-86 has been broken for a while and I have finally decided that it is time to move on. I am currently taking Calc AB and Physics C, and plan on continuing Calc and Physics (hopefully) in college, even though I will be majoring in Economics or Finance. Should I get the ti-84, the ti-89 or buy an old ti-86 off ebay!? I'll still be able to use my 86 while learning how to use the new calculator so I'll be able to take some time to learn how to use the new one.

thanks!

ti-89 is the best. except you can't use it on standardized tests which sucks.

My son has used his TI-89 on all his standardized tests. This calculator roolz and is practically indispensable for a math/science/engineering nerd -- I mean, student.

im pretty much done with standardized tests besides the act which wont be a problem...Im just looking to get a calc for Calc and Physics this year that I can use in college.

In high school I used a Ti 89 and loved it. For highschool the 89 is best. However in college it may be different. I am not allowed to use a graphing calculator in math or chem so I had to buy a scientific one. The best thing you could do is buy a Ti 89 and just don't become dependent on it. You will be able to do most problems on the 89 but make sure you can do all the math on you're own.

According to a math major I spoke to...

"Get a TI-89 if you have the $$ but otherwise...you wont die without it. I mean in college profs rarelya dvocate use of a calculator . You do so many things mentally and anything requiring technology is usually more advanced than a graphing calculator. However, I'm not gonna lie...the TI-89 is a great crutch when learning things for the first time as long as you wean yourself off."

Never had a TI89 but I like my TI84Plus

ti-89 titanium
enuff said

TI 89 would be really useful- it can do derivatives and stuff... HOWEVER, i have a TI 84 silver edition plus... and everything it can't do that the TI 89 can do, i can do by myself, so i haven't felt at a disadvantage... thought i might get a TI 89 for the ap calc test just for the benefit of time...

I bought a TI-83 Plus as an 11th grader. Suffice it to say that I still use that calculator now that I'm a senior chemistry major.

The TI89 is the best calculator. But, when you get older, keep in mind that you cannot use it on the GRE at all! Do not become co dependent on it. And, at University, some profs will not let you use anything above a drugstore calculator. I know that other folks brought that up and all, but just be careful for later on down the line with schooling.

I love my CASIO Fraction. It's easy to get used to, and so small I actually know what all the buttons do. Though people in my physics class laugh at me because everyone else uses graphing calculators and whatnot.

i heard the 89 is hard to learn

I liked my ti89, but I don't have it anymore. It's a lot better than the 83. as for the standardized tests... it's probably fine for most tests. I know it's allowed on the SATs.

TI-89 + SAT Math = 800. I hate the way they made them after the Titanium upgrade though. The old look was much better.

Otherwise the ol' redneck calculator functions well also.

I like the Ti-83. You still get to exercise your brain, and you're allowed to use it on everything.

Or maybe I just have too much of an emotional attachment to my calculator...

I have TI-83 and it's pretty useful. I love it! It helps me with everything.

I think i am going to go with 89 b/c my 86 still works if its on a flat surface (lol) so ill keep that around while i learn how to use the 89

I had an 86 break, and I bought an 89 titanium. Two days of ignoring my teachers later, I can use just about everything on it, excluding Calculus stuff (cuz I don't know how to do that by hand til next year). It's amazing. If you're teachers allow it (and mine all do), it's amazing. I feel like I'm being allowed to cheat. It can not be used on GRE or ACT, but big deal. ACT you don't usually need to do, and the GRE is a ways off for us all.

What damn teachers do you guys have? Mine don't allow anything above a Ti-84. Sometimes not even more than a basic calculator.
