Calculator for Calculus

Price is actually the same for both TI-89s, 150 buckaroos.

I was looking at Dru2k5's post and realized that i've never seen someone with a Ti-84 in my life.
goes to Ti's website

On all my tests we weren't allowed to use a graphing calc. It's really not that bad.

But I have heard calc is so difficult and even really, really smart people (which I am not) sometimes get C's. Any way I can really improve my chances of getting a good grade? Would summer work from a review book give me a nice head start?

Def get a 89. Don't listen to these people who say you won't learn as much - you will. It will save you ENDLESS abouts of time doing algebra and stuff like that. 83 is OUTDATED. Get the 89.

The 89 is 100% worth it.

To avoid reliance, I learn to do things by hand first, and then use the calculator for most of the homework/tests.

If you want to save money but still have a very powerful and nice calculator, then purchase the TI-83+.

If you want to be a poser, no offense to those who have these, though, then purchase the TI-84+.

If you want to be L337, then get the TI-89+.

Of the three, the TI-89+ is by far the most powerful. It has features built-in the other two can only dream about.

There is a caveat. Some professors are wary of its power; thtey will not let you use it on their exams.

isnt there a Ti-92 out there?

yes but it has a QWERTY keypad which is a DQs it from most standardized test

isnt it better than the ti-89 though?

Nah, not really..my math teacher says the only difference is the keyboard.

TI 92 and TI 89 are the same calculator underneath the keyboard. Programs written for each are interchangable.

i actually much prefer the ti84+ over the ti83+...the USB compatibility is convienent. not to mention it has a much more comfortable feel because of its curved case. it is freaking sturdy too..i dropped my ti84+ from a three-story building onto concrete and it still worked.

"i dropped my ti84+ from a three-story building onto concrete and it still worked."

why would u do that? lol

science experiment?

Now, I don't own a TI-84+, but ***? A TI-84+ is just the replacement for the TI-83+, just like the TI-83+ replaced its predecessor and so forth. I think the only poser here is the person saying L337.

Ti-89 is banned from some testing environments also. I believe it is not allowed on the ACT's at least (even though a lot of people don't take it). I wouldn't be surprised if some college professors don't let you use it either.

Hecatonchires, I'll defend my choice of words :)

You're exactly right. The TI-84+ is a replacement for the TI-83+. And, it's just that.

To be fair it does have more memory / speed, more applications pre-loaded, and USB connectivity.

But, considering that there is a $20 difference between the TI-83+ and the TI-84+, as well as a $30 difference between the TI-89 and the TI-84+, and taking note of the power differences between the calculators, it is a much wiser decision to purchase the TI-89.

Most bang for your buck.
