Calculator Malfunction

What do proctors do when you report that your calculator has malfunctioned on the sat II's. Do they check your calculator to make sure that it doesn't work? Do they happen to check your batteries to see if it's really not working or if you screwed it up on purpose? Thanks

What is there to gain from faking or causing a calculator failure? It is up to you to have a functioning calculator (you can bring along a backup if you want); otherwise, it is a “too bad for you” situation.

I always tell my son to put in a new set of batteries beforehand. I suppose you can retake the test at your own expense. I agree with fignewton, it’s a “too bad for you” situation.

My son takes 2 calculators with him to AP/SAT/ACT tests. And batteries.

Your only option on the Math Subject Tests (only ones where calculators are allowed) is to cancel that test, so there’s no conceivable reason to purposely cause calculator failure. It’s not like you’re granted extra time or anything.
