Does anyone have any faster methods to do certain things on the calculator besides graphing? Can you guys please share?

Thanks.

Does anyone have any faster methods to do certain things on the calculator besides graphing? Can you guys please share?

Thanks.

-well i programed bunch of formulas (quadratic, distance, Area-volume of figures...etc) to just punch in the numbers and get the answer right away i have TI-83 if this helps at all .

^^ how did you do that?I absolutley suck with this ti 83 calculator stuff.

It's in the manual. It would be pretty hard to explain because their are so many different combinations. You just have to mess around with it.

is it concidered cheating?

uh huh .

i don't know if its considered cheating-dont know how they could possibly catch you unless they take every single calculator and check its programing before test. I had my math teacher show me and its not that hard, just time consuming
i ll give you a few basic instructions ( try to find it on the internet if you can)
-push program
-go to new (write the name for the program)
-now you will see empty list, push program again, find word "input"
-push input, then put "(which is in right corner of calculator in green) A?",A
-so it should look like this :Input "A?", A - repeat this process only in second line use B instead of A and third line use C.
in fort line put in the quadratic equation, don't need input or anything, then push 2nd and quit to go to the original screen.
-now you can just press program, you ll see your eqation name-press it and screen will say A?(put in first number), push enter you ll see B? Put second number and same for the third number
-push enter and you ll get answer
-also you ll have to make anther program for quad because of +- in the middle of it
-hope this helps, ill ask around in school see if programing is allowed on the ACT

i looked at the ACT site and yea i don't think it can be used, it says it prohibited to have ACT test materials in your calculator's memory.

thanks, kinda weird, probably would take more time? to do instead of just solving.

well once you program it, you don't have to do all the steps over and over, u just push the program name and put in numbers, takes about 15-20s to solve any quadratic equation or distance formula.-if thats what you meant

-it is incredibly boring to program i just did on few long car drives out of boredom- but if you can t use it on the ACT it's better to spend time memorizing the formulas. It doesn't help that much on the actual act either, it save you 2-3min tops- which is not that significant.

which quadratic equation should i put

...

...

There is only one quadratic equation.

Lol..........................

well no its weird to enter it like theres multiple ways to do it, I'm not sure which one is the most common one on the act, Geometry? Algebra? Or should I enter it all. , like Idk lol, It took me 5 mins to find the comma lol, this crap is so confusing.

if i were you, id just forget about it and just solve the problems normally. they take literally 30 seconds to solve and youre better off doing something that youre more comfortable with than trying to fiddle around with a calculator trick you learned the day before.

^^ I concur

-you do what ever works for you- for quadratic what i meant is you have a +- in middle of it and you cannot program -+ in your calculator; you have to make 2 separate equations one with + and one with -. I did talk to my math teacher s in school and they say its perfectly legal to have programed equations in your calculator, you just cant have any test relating text material in your calculator memory.

It is really complex to learn how to program, like i said before my teacher taught me step by step and still took a wile to get it.

programming stuff in your calculator is not cheating.. if we are smart enough to do that on our calcs and they allow us to use graphing calculators, then nothing should be wrong with it

now, the TI-89 and 92 calcs are different.. those are considered cheating because you don't have to know virtually any math.. just pick the right calc function and plug away.

Guys, gals, if you have cables for your calculators, you should be downloading formulas, not inputting them yourselves. In particular, I recommend the SAT OS for the TI 83/84 (despite the name, it is useful for the ACT) and some formulas for trigonometry. The SAT OS can be found here.

#1 SAT_OS v.1.10 - (Port: 83+) - ticalc.org

It seems CARIBDIS Formulas is pretty popular, too... I will have to try that out.

How do you download from that site to your calculator, Jaime?
