Which calculator is the best for a mathematics/statistics major? Should I get one now so I can use it on the SAT/SATII/AP Calc AB next year (senior year)?...Then I dont have to buy another one in college.

For AP Calc I highly recommend the TI-89.

I'm partial to the TI-89/89T but I know people that like the HP 49g+ because of the reverse polish notation.

My son just bought the TI-84 for AP Calculus AB; it is more powerful than the TI-89, though it costs a bit more. You might ask your instructor & think about how much you like math/scinece & are likely to continue taking it in college in deciding how much you want to spend. TI is the way to go, though. They have many different models--we originally started with the TI-89, but the teachers are now having them do more complicated calculations in AP Physics C & AP Calculus AB, so he wanted the upgraded calculator & is giving his TI-89 to his younger sister who is taking geometry & chemistry.
He LOVES math & science. Sister is fond of science, not quite as fond of math as he. He's thinking of going into engineering, CS, or some form of math/science in college.
Starion

I think the 89T would be more powerful than the 84.

HImom... The TI-89 blows the TI-84 away because it has a CAS(Computer Algebra System) built in. I seriously doubt the TI-84 is better than the TI-89.

um ti-83 and up all have CAS systems....its just that Ti-89 did a better job visualizing it and well the specs are amazing no doubt on ti-89.

ti-84 is just a little advanced version of ti-83...nothing too special

ti-89 should be banned on the SAT...but hey I got 800s using that...so its all good :)

I just used the TI-89 on the Math I C, greatest decision I ever made hahaha.

I should go borrow a 89. Mine is a freak 84+silver

I only have a 83+. My brother has the 89. Maybe I'll steal his for next years AP Clac AB class. HEHE.

Calculators are only as smart as the persons using them. :)

The 89T is more advanced than the 84 Plus for sure.

Whoops. You're all right. The one son "outgrew" & replaced was the TI83 & now he's using the TI84. He never requested or has used the TI89 yet. Here's the TI webpage about the different graphing calculators.
