calculators

What classes require calculators and what calculators do most students own?

I don't think any class requires calculators, although of course they do make life quite a bit easier.

You will probably be best off bringing a simple scientific (5.111/2 won't let you use anything better) as well as a graphing calculator of your choice. I have a TI-83+ which has served me just fine; my boyfriend wants a TI-89 so he doesn't have to do integrals anymore. Whatever grapher you bring, make sure you learn how to use it!

the only class that has allowed calculators on tests so far was 3.091.

89 is useful sometimes on homework. you don't need one yourself as you'll be able to find one around whenever necessary.

no classes 'require' calculators, many classes allow them on tests, but they are never neccessary, I tend not to bother to bring a calculator to the test even if its allowed
but I recommend bringing your TI-89 if you can use it, otherwise a TI-83+ is fine too
as your life at MIT progresses you're probably more likely to be using a computer math package like MATLAB

I have a TI-89 Tit and it's not working!!! Oh well, I'll try to fix it before getting to MIT

I <3 my 89.

I rarely actually USE it, but I <3 it nonetheless....
