Calculus 1 vs. Calculus BC? Has anyone even heard of Calculus 1 as a HS course?

My son - a high school junior - has to enroll for his fall courses by midnight tonight. We thought that we'd talked it all out and made the tough decisions - via consensus, of course. But then we got hit with a curve at the end. He has to choose between Calculus 1 and Calculus BC. Both are listed as AP. None of us know what Calculus 1 refers to. A quick search of google and this website suggests that there is no info out there.

We think it might be some idiosyncratic language used by his school.

Or perhaps not, and someone here can tell us what the difference between the courses most likely is.

Maybe it’s AB Calculus?

At my school Calc I was AB and Calc II was the parts of BC not covered in AP + other stuff.

Calc BC will cover all the Calc 1 material and then some.

Calc AB is about the same as Calc I
Calc BC is about the same as Calc I and Calc II.

I concur with QwertyKey.

Thanks for the clarification.

Calculus I is usually differential calculus. Calculus II is integral calculus and series. Calculus III is multivariable. These are the designations usually used in one-semester college courses.
