I've been trying to figure this problem out forever. Can someone please help me with it by showing me the method and the answer?
Find the rate of change of the distance between the origin and a moving point on the graph y = sin(5x) if dx/dt = 5 centimeters per second.

Thanks in advance!

Well, the distance between the origin and the moving point is found by d^2 = x^2 + y^2. (Yay, Pythagoras!)

Before taking the derivative implicitly with respect to t, I would suggest replacing y in the above expression with the equation that you have.

You can replace the dx/dt with the 5 cm/sec. value you have, but it would seem you’d also need an x value in order to get a completely numerical answer.
