Calculus BC or AB + another AP?

Hey all,
Just curious, would colleges (like UCs, UCB) prefer someone taking Calculus BC or Calculus AB + Another AP class? By the way, Calculus BC is very difficult at our school.

Thanks!

Calc BC and the other AP!

Just kidding. It depends on your major. If you are going STEM, then take Calc BC. If you want to be a history major, and the other AP is AP European history, then you better do the calc AB + AP Euro.

Thanks for your input! I’m thinking of doing Business/CS. I’m leaning towards Calc BC, but I’m so so sure.

Calc BC, plus AP math courses align with most all college math tracks,so you are more likely to receive college credit.

Oops edit to post #2 aha **not so sure

Sounds like you are leaning STEM, go for the calc class.

What does the rest of your schedule look like?

@MYOS1634 I have 1 other AP and 1 science honors (to help me prepare for the AP science next year a.k.a. senior year)

What other AP? A core AP like ap English Language, or an AP lite like APES?
Would your high school allow you to take AB junior year, BC senior year or isbir a high school where it’s either/or?

Yes, I am taking AP English Language. Our high school does allow that, but more advanced students go for Calculus BC junior year, whereas less advanced students/students who want a lighter course load will lean towards Calculus AB. After Calculus AB or BC, you may also move to AP Statistics the year after, which I likely will be doing.

Since calc bc-stats is a less credible sequence than ab-bc, I’d go with the ab-bc sequence. Colleges won’t care how that’s seen internally by classmates and taking ab-bc makes more sense than packing all of BC into Jr year only to take an AP lite senior year.
What would the third AP be?
Calc AB, English language, and any third AP would thus be my choice.

If you do decide to go the Business route, Calc AB typically satisfies your math requirement for most undergrad business programs - check your traget schools and verify. Good luck.

I would take AB only because it sets a solid foundation. BC is fast paced, so if you prefer to dedicate your time to just studying calculus every day than take BC. BC however will give you a nice taste of what college is like.

Depends on what school and what you plan to major in. Personally, I’d do BC because it gives you more math credit. However, if you’re not going into STEM, stick with AB and an AP that you’d like to be in (like Euro, World, US Gov, etc.)

Think it over, analyze the outcomes, and go with it! There’s really no right or wrong in this situation, it’s more about how you’ll turn out in the end. Just be sure to balance both AP’s accordingly or spend more time with BC.

Whatever you choose, I’m sure you’ll do great!
