Calculus for the premed?

Is it necessary to take calculus to get into medical school? I have already taken the AP and at I should at least get a 3 which will allow me to get credit for the course or at least wave my requirement. Would medical schools frown upon this? I have heard so many contradictory things and am now very confused. I would rather just take statistics to fulfill any math requirements I might need.

sorry i should have put this in the premed section -_- just ignore it ill repost it there

but thanks anyways

You'll probably get the same answer on the pre-med section, but I'll just answer here for now.

More and more medical schools are listing calculus as a required course for students interested in applying. Also, most, if not all, medical schools will not accept AP courses. So if you were to get credit for biology, for example, through the AP test, you would still need to take biology (either introductory or higher-level) at some point in college for med schools to consider it. So even if you were able to test out of calculus, I think you would still need to take it in college.

Hopefully that makes sense. I have a tendency to ramble when I'm tired...

Just as an added note, here is a list of pre-med courses I found on a website (<a href="http://www.bestpremed.com/preMDreq.php)%5B/url%5D">http://www.bestpremed.com/preMDreq.php)</a>.</p>

A year of Freshman Chemistry along with the appropriate laboratory courses
A year of Organic Chemistry along with laboratory courses
A year of Biology along with laboratory courses
A year of Physics along with laboratory courses
A year of English
A year of Calculus or other advanced math classes, including Statistics
