I know it's supposedly new, but in general, what's the difference between Honors or regular classes? I was originally going to take Math20C, until I got my recommended courses. I'm majoring in Managerial Science. Honestly, I'm not a really studious student, I kind of half-assed my way through HS.

And here's the twist, this is for kids who scored a 5 on the AP Calc BC test. I got a 4 with a 5 subscore, and they still gave me the Honors recommendation. I'm baffled. What do I do? I wouldn't mine challenging myself with Honors, I'm going to try to use more brainpower in college. However, am I even allowed to take the sequence. Was it a mistake?

if you know you don't have the discipline to do it, why bother? i think this class is targeted towards those with a true love for mathematics and the passion to pursue it beyond a 'regular' class.

that's a valid point, but, not to sound lofty or weird, a part of me lit up at the opportunity. I honestly like math, and I'm really excited for my major and the classes I'll take for it. I want to know the true differences though, between Honors and starting with Math 20C. And also, if they might have made a mistake in giving me the recommendation because I got a 4

my suitemate got a 5 on the BC exam; he got a A, B+, B+ in 20C, 20D, and 20E, respectively.

of course, this doesn't mean you'll do worse. at the same time, it doesn't mean you'll do better -- take it for what you will

but i'm surprised that they came up with this honors seq. i was a year too late i guess (not that i would've taken it anyways :P) it's just another way to make non-honors kids feel inferior =/

wait does the virtual advisor recommend you take this honor sequence? If not, where do you find out. Does it have to do with your major (I'd assume something to do with mathematics) because I got recommended to just MATH20C with a 5 in Calculus BC.

it was in the email with my recommended courses, went onto the new student gateway, and had the list of MMW1, MATH, Econ 1, and GE, and in the cell right of the Math it said:

Your score of 5 on the BC Calculus AP exam places you into the new Honors Calculus Sequence. For more information on the sequence, click HERE.

Note: this sequence does not run parallel to the MATH 20A-B-C sequence but may count toward major requirements if necessary.

I got recommended for the Honors Calculus Sequence too, and I'm kind of hesitant about taking it because although I got a 5 on the BC Exam, that was in 10th grade... and I took Multivariable Calculus/Linear Algebra in 11th grade, but I kind of didn't do too well in them/they were way beyond me. Plus I don't really care for proofs, and it seems like that's what this sequence is all about. >> I don't know! I want to talk to either the academic advisors or someone in the math department, but I'm not sure how/who to contact.
