Calculus I Help

We’ve had two tests so far and I have not done well at all. I have gotten tutoring from my cousin and that hasn’t helped much. I’m thinking about dropping the course and retaking it later. Who is the best Cal I professor?

D1 is currently taking Calculus I with Boxmeyer. D hasn’t taken a math class since Fall 2010, and was a little apprehensive since she hasn’t loved math in the past, but she’s doing well & says he explains things clearly. And that lines up with what she read on ratemyprofessor when she was picking her classes.

Get free tutoring at the Center for Academic Success. My son tutors Cal I and he’s very good. If you want, I’ll pm his name and you can request him. You book your appts right online.

Who is your Cal I prof. There are a number of them that teach Cal I quite well.

Here is another resource for tutoring on campus. It is free but I think you need to sign up for a tutor time. [Center for Academic Success - The University of Alabama](http://www.ctl.ua.edu/AcadSup/browseacadsup13.asp)

The drop date isn’t until Oct. 31 so maybe you have a little more time to try and get help. Good luck to you.

@momtocollegekids, that would be very helpful if I had his name. I’m afraid of failing the class or having to repeat it. I have Dr Allen right now. I was looking at the tutors for calculus I, but I didn’t know who to choose.

My son is having the same issue as you Soccergirl. He also has Allen for Calculus I and will probably be dropping and retaking in the spring. He is not sure what is going wrong - he feels he understands it, goes over HW problems with roommates (who have higher level math), does all the homework but then his test scores have been poor. The whole grade is based on four multiple choice tests (two that he has already taken and hasn’t done well on) and a final and he doesn’t want to chance a low grade in a 4 hour class. The next test isn’t until after the 10/31 drop date.

A couple of weeks ago he signed up for an online Econ class that he thinks he can do pretty well in so he will be OK hour-wise if he drops Calc I. He’s also looking for recommendations for a Calc I prof for next semester - maybe someone who gives partial credit on tests for showing work and understanding process - not just right/wrong multiple choice tests (that hasn’t worked so well for him).

Calculus tests that are multiple choice? Interesting.

ILMom2012, I’m going through the exact same thing your son id going through. I understand the rules and how to apply them to problems, im going over the homework with my cousin, i feel i understand it, i do all the homework and im not sure what’s going on. I will probably drop it and get a different teacher or take it at Shelton State.
