Calculus or AP Human Geo?

Hello!

I’m taking three AP classes next year: AP Lit, AP Bio, and AP Comp Gov. I’m also taking Spanish 4 & 5, H Economics, and H Calculus, which I’m more afraid of than any other class (I’ve only gotten one B in high school, and it was in H Precalc/Trig). I’ve been considering switching my H Calculus class with AP Human Geography, which is being offered at my school for the first time next year.

I want to be an English/Creative Writing major, so I don’t think colleges will frown too much on my lack of a math class this year. And I’m not looking Ivy League; my #1 choice is Chatham University (in Pittsburgh). Will taking AP Human Geo instead of H Calculus hurt my chances of admission/scholarship? Will colleges care that I didn’t take a math class if I took four AP classes?

What’s a better choice for me - AP Human Geography or Honors Calculus?

Take Honors calc. AP Human Geography is considered an elective class.

If you completed pre-calculus and have all A’s,
you’re fine for Chatham, Duquesne, Pitt, Penn State Paterno Fellows (which allows you to take small seminars even if you’re not in Schreyer and if you’re interested in multiple form writing their freshman seminar is superb), Agnes Scott, Elizabethtown, SUNY Purchase, Hiram, Knox (nationally recognized for creative writing), Susquehanna, Allegheny, Kalamazoo.
I hope your reach is Denison, which has great writing options (including a concentration in nonfiction!) It’s test-optional by the way.
Run the npc - Chatham doesn’t meet need, meaning it may choose nor to offer sufficient financial aid.

Okay, thanks! I also should have mentioned that I got a 1420 on my first SAT, and I just took the May one as well (haven’t gotten my scores back yet).

Okay, then Denison is a good match school for you and Knox a safety.
I’d go for Kenyon and Hamilton as big reaches (apply once you’re done with your other apps).
All three are much better than Chatham and would give you nice merit in addition to financial aid.
If you are into writing, Eckerd College in Florida has a writer’s workship that’s headed by Dennis Lehane. Denison is better but Eckerd and Knox are both very good, and Eckerd is on the beach

Other colleges you can look into:
Elon, Ohio Wesleyan, Seattle University, U Rochester, U Evansville, Wheaton MA, Franklin&Marshall.
