Hey, I'm a junior in high school, currently in precalculus, and I can't decide if I should take Calculus AB or Statistics. I'm only average in math, B's and C's mostly, math is my weak point. Also, by no means do I plan to major in math so that's not a factor for me. My main goal is to do well in which ever class I choose, it doesn't really matter to me which class is more helpful for my future. And because of scheduling conflicts, I can only take one of these two math classes. Does anybody have some advice???

Calc is probably the easiest math course I have taken in my life. If you want in A in Calc do some hardcore trig identity review and then take the time to look at your Algebra. The Calc is the easy part.

I’ve heard AB Calc isn’t that bad, and it looks a lot better than Stats so I’d go with that. The only reason to take Stat over Calc is if you’re really worried about your workload next year; if that’s the case, maybe take Stats to lighten your load, but if it’s not, just know that colleges prefer to see Calc so that’s probably the best option.

Calc=Easy.
Algebra =Hardest part of Calc. Stats is often looked on as the soft math options. You can wow admins with Calc.

Calculus will probably be more like the other math classes that you have taken, so some people find statistics easier since it’s less math-intensive for the most part, but others find it more difficult because it’s different from what they’re used to. Realistically, if you’re just looking for the easier class, it varies a lot based on teachers, so you’re best bet would probably be to ask people at your school who are taking them now how they compare.

Stats is the AP Environmental of math–a valuable class in its own right but something to be considered an elective rather than a core math class.

^agreed, except that you don’t need to know trig identities too much. (depends on your teacher). Hows your gpa? If its not that great, go Stats junior year and do well in it to raise your gpa, then go calc senior year, so you’ll be taking a real AP math class but you’ll get the gpa boost too from Stats.
