I have recently tried to sign up for the Calculus Placement Exam, but I guess they are filled up because the only date you can choose is June 1st, but I cannot select that date. Will there be any other test dates for Calculus? I already took Calculus at a CC and I wouldn't want to have to retake precalculus for a second year!

i think you can take it at SPOP so that you have the scores before you sign up for classes.

Are you sure it’s filled up? The website says that information regarding the Calculus test will be available on this website: [On-line Placement Tests](http://www.testingcenter.uci.edu/onlinetesting2010.html)

I’m not sure how we sign up for the online test, but I only see the June 1st one on this website [Test Dates](http://www.testingcenter.uci.edu/testdates.html)

That website is for Spring exams not Summer.

Ah okay, thank you very much!

If you already took calculus then you do not have to take the calculus placement exam at UCI. That is if you have recieved a grade of C or better.

I called the testing center and they said they were gonna offer the placement test online in July.

Also does anyone know how we can study for this-I took Pre Cal two years ago and math is not my forte.

I just took it today and it was mostly algebra and basic trig… easy! :P

^ if i was to get a book that reviewed pre-calc, would i be fine?

Yeah, that should be fine
Here’s the site which tells you what you should review and also has some sample problems:
Calculus

So if I’ve taken pre-calc then it shouldn’t be a big deal, right?
I didn’t take math this year either…I’ve forgotten a lot.

Yeah, it’s mostly just precalc stuff. I got my score today and this was the breakdown:

Exponents and Radicals
Rational Expressions
Linear Equations and Inequalities
Functions
Polynomials and Polynomial Functions
Logarithms and Exponential Functions
Trigonometry
Geometric Applications

Easy stuff… I hadn’t taken any math for over a year too, and I didn’t study for this but I managed to get 83%! hehe Don’t worry~

haha ok I’ll just go over my old worksheets and homework. Wow I don’t remember anything lol.

xxsteelxx,
I did receive passing grade, but I’ve tried Admissions and they do not know, and also tried to call Testing center and they said they’re not sure. The website says that any math course at a CC doesn’t exempt you from the placement test, but isn’t the placement test for Math 2A? I took an equivalent transferable Math 2A class, and they’re not sure what I should do.

okay, if you did not take the AP exam then you should sign up for the placement exam. Go to a library and get a precalculus and start reviewing. The calculus placement exam is online and you should take the test two days before your SPOP. For example, if your SPOP is on 7/21,22 then you should take the test on 7/19 at the latest.

I’m having a similar problem as well, I took Calculus 1 and 2 at CC. Taking precalc again would be a waste of time. Just in case however, I took the AP Calculus BC exam, I believe I’ll a 5 on it. Nonetheless, the AP scores come out about the third week of July and I signed up for an earlier SPOP. What should I do?

I thought AP test scores come out July 1st, but they are mailed to your home by the third week of July? I remember someone I knew last year said they college received their AP test scores around July 1-3 so they were fine for the placement test. The test is online so it wouldn’t be too hard to cancel the test date anyway.

Ahh, Thank you for the notification RamenNation. BTW I believe you could skip the placement exam, if you’re unsure then just take it anyway. Better safe than sorry.

According to ZotStart if you look at the “Components of a Degree” page and scroll down. The second paragraph states:

hey you guys…so when we take these placement tests…are they are during SPOP? or doing we hve to go on an earlier date?

Earlier date. After you sign up for SPOP on the same webpage you may sign for placement exams. It is best to choose a date before your SPOP so your conselor will know what classes you should take.

Calculus is online and must be taken at least 2 days prior to your SPOP.
