calculus placement exam?

just wondering if anybody has any info on this placement test? is the test based off of calculus ab material, or is it like a precalculus exam to deterimine which calculus class to place you in? i couldn't find any info on it so i apologize. also, do you guys recommend reviewing the material over summer before taking the exam, or is it something you can just wing it and pass? thanks for any info!

I took the placement test last year and was placed into Calc I or Math 2A. It did not have any real calculus.

It was all Alg 2, trig, and precalc. Its not about passing, its about which class you want to be placed in.

If you took AB already, I don’t think you have to take this test… but yeah you def should review concepts from precalc, trig & alg 2.

^ do we need to know matricies?

Its actually called a precalculus test. I don’t remember any matrices being on there.

How exactly is the online placement test going to work? Do we have to sign up for it?

Uhmm so i if i passed the CALC AB AP TEST with a 3, do i get college credit for it? Cas some schools don’t give it …right?

@starsfromabove,

You will get elective credit for a 3 on the Calc AB AP test. You will NOT receive credit for Math 2A (calc AB).

In other words, you will need to take Calc AB again, if it a requirement for you.

what’s elective credit?

Elective credit is credit for classes outside of the required credits for major/minor/GE.

We need 180 credits to graduate. A chunk of that is GE credits. Another portion is from your MAJOR. The rest is elective credits, assuming you do not have another major/minor.

calculus placement exam starts mid-july and it’s online only. so just wait til your AP scores come out and see if you’re exempt.

Um…so i took a course called math 150 and math 151 on my senior year…does this mean i dont have to take the placement test for calculus?

I’m taking a pre-calc class at a community college now. Do I still have to take the placement test?

@aixxru, math 150 and math 151 did you take them in a summer class in a college? And if so, did you check assist.org to make sure they qualify for math 2a/2b?

If the above are true, then why would you have to take a placement test for calculus?

@sg3x20, yes I believe you still do.

What percent do you need to be placed in Math 2a?

sg3, I received approx an 85% on it, and the last time I took precalc was 2 years prior to taking the test.

If you are currently taking pre-calc, this should be a breeze for you if you are doing fine right now in the class.

Yeah, its a piece of cake. Thanks!

Where do you go to take the Calc placement test?
I’ve been looking all over the placement test site and I cant find a link to take the online test. Help? :(

It’s still not out yet… Go to [UCI Academic Testing Center](http://www.testingoffice.uci.edu)

@junshik: actually i took it in my school on my senior year, they offer that class here at my school thats why i took that instead of ap cal.
