calculus placement tests

not too bad overall, somewhat long. the last section sucked with that one question...

what was the last section on?

Differential equations.

Can someone please tell me the total length of the test, including how long it took you to complete it?

5 sections - took me about an 1.5 hours

it wasnt too bad, just dont make careless mistakes. not something you can really study for.

Math Background:
800 in SAT and SAT2 Math2C standard ammount of time
5 BC Calc in Junior Year
Took a class on Discrete Maths this year and got to play with robots GO ROBOTS!!!

i just finished took a REAALLY Long time 3hours(I have dyslexia), and got a 28 out of 40. There were so many problems that I felt I would have known If I took this right after I had taken the AP exam.

I spent 90 minutes on the last section though and only got a 2 :(

Go Class of 2009!!!!

hey I think a 28 is really good, considering some of that stuff hasn't really been covered in the most advanced high school classes. do you know what score you need to place out of co-calc?

no Idea... Though it seems from their description of Co-Calc that you could do well on the Calculus based stuff, but poorly on the Algebra-like stuff.

Well at least it is over with... I'm not even sure if I want to place out of the beginner Calc Classes.

I took almost 3 hours to do it and I don't have dyslexia, but I did check all my work. 3 on the last section for me.. just lovely. I didn't understand one of the questions and just couldn't make another one work.

I just used the dyslexia as an excuse here. I saw the person say it took them 1.5 Hours, and well.... I have no problem with numbers, it is words I have problems with, not reading them but writing them out, and making what I have in my head seem coherent on paper.

Were points taken off for incorrect answers?

My son's had Calc I and II and Calculus in 3 Dimensions at the college level and claimed that he hadn't seen most of the stuff on Differential Equations in the 5th section.

Had anyone covered that material in one of their first couple of Calc classes or was it there just to see how far you could go?

Well, I thought I'd covered 4 out of the 6 questions, but I missed one... either because I didn't know it or was careless.

I'm not sure if points are taken off for incorrect answers, but I would think so. I don't think they would have advised us to leave problems blank if incorrect answers didn't count against us. It was that way on the discrete math placement test, at least.

You probably still have a pretty good chance of passing out of calc considering that they factor in your SAT math, calc BC, and the placement test.

I took AP Calc BC, and the only question that our material didn't cover in section 5 (as far as I know) was the one differential equation question (I guess I would call it a more than first degree differential equation(?)). There was an integral problem in that section that I was unable to solve, but that was probably my fault.

I felt the same way about those two questions, and i don't know what the 3rd one i missed was... I checked my work.

Odd. He said his Calc II class spent most of its time on approximations which weren't covered by the test.

That's annoying. I looked up the course he took at college and compared it to the AP course. When I read the college course description it sounds just like the AP class. The list of chapters covered in their calculus book in the syllabus doesn't match what's in the description.

I'm going to have a serious talk with a Dean if the actual college course really didn't cover the same material as the AP course and my son has to take Calc II over as a result.

Well, the Calc BC AP covers series and sequences which weren't on it either. I hated approximations when we did them... takes too much time and it's more number crunching than anything.

Thanks for the info.

Are all of the questions multiple choice?
