Calculus Professors

I'm looking at the course schedules for Calculus 408k and there are no professors listed. Is there anyway to figure this out because I'd like to avoid the difficult professors?

just go to pick a prof (create an account its like 10 buks / year ) and list all the professors from most best to least and when time comes, you know who to pick…that’s what I would do.

yeah i ended up having to choose a calc class with no professor…does anybody know when I will find out what professor I have?

Some won’t be listed until the first week of school O_o.

that’s lame…so it will be posted on the course page that told you whether it’s open/closed/etc.?

The Math department likes to list their professors late, with many classes not having professors listed until after you register or first week of classes.

Since everyone is talking about Calculus I’m gonna go ahead and ask this. I’m not a strong math student and I do struggle with the subject but I took a non-AP version in high school and I feel I can do good if I have support and a good professor, does anyone have any advice on how to do good in the class?

I am coming from UTSA as a former CAP student and UTSA is laid back compared to UT-Austin so I just need a few pointers on where to get help such as tutoring, SI sessions, etc, anything will help!

Thanks!

I hear rave reviews for Oscar Gonzales as a professor. See if you can get one of his classes. Also, you will receive ten free one on one tutoring sessions per semester. Use them if you feel unclear about any material so as to not fall behind. The material builds so keeping on top is key. If you sign up for the tutoring, realize not all tutors are equal. See if you can find Daniel Rothenberg or Laura Littler. Both are amazing tutors.

Another aid is [Cramster Homework Help and Online Study Community?Free Homework Help](http://www.cramster.com). It will be a valuable website to you for homework.

Thats IF your using a book that they support.

All calculus classes at UT use the same book and it is covered by cramster.

What calculus profs should be avoided?

Dr. “Sam” Kim should be avoided in my opinion. He grades on a curve. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done grade wise. At the end of the semester, he stacks students up by grades and the top 16% get an A. Whether or not you had an A average grade wise does not matter. It sucks since so many students take 408C who should have tested out of it and there is nothing you can do.

He is also not a great lecturer. His accent is somewhat difficult to understand. His microscopic writing is difficult to read. Get someone else.

Thanks. That’s good to know.

I heard alot of those empty professors spots are going to be filled by graduate students

Yeah, Nen_user, I’ve heard the same thing too. My orientation advisor told me that the pro about being taught by grad students rather than professors is that they are usually not as consumed by research and have more time to focus on the class and the students.

RateMyProfessors.com is a free version of pick a prof and they do have a lot of teacher info on there
