Calculus Teachers at Emory

I plan to take Calculus 111 spring semester and am in the process of scheduling my classes. These are my teacher options: Amanda Clemm, Megan Cream, Ran Sun, Jessica Fuller. I imagine that they are all grad students and may be teaching Calc 111 for the first time. Is anyone familiar with these teachers??? Any advice ??? Thanks

No, some may have taught it before. All I can tell you is that you’ll likely get an A, but I don’t know if the instruction will be that good (the intro. math series are some of the worst examples of math and science instruction. They have essentially been reduced to “free rides” for pre-meds or something). I think Cream and Fuller have definitely taught before. Maybe take one of them. Don’t expect solid instruction (it may happen, but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t). Simply enjoy earning a good grade w/o much thought. Do you not have an AP credit or something so that you can take maybe a 112-Z or something with actual professors? You poor thing…you’re about to pay like 5-6k for a community college level course (and I’m sure the community college, in many cases, will teach it better).

If you can skip Calc 1, go ahead and do so. If you can’t, then it’s pretty easy.

Calc in general isn’t a tough class. But Emory really likes to dumb it down.

I am currently a freshman at Emory and just took Calc 1. I would like to say that if there is any way shape or form that you took Calc in the past and just didn’t score high enough on the BC exam for example, but you know how to take the derivative of a functions and the basics PLEASE SKIP MATH 111. I wish I did this. If you talk to the math department they will let you skip MATH 111 if you explain to them your knowledge of calc and how you just didn’t do well on that one test. Take 112-z if at all possible. 111 will be a wast of time and energy, and if you already have some understanding of whats going on, you will get board really easily in 111. Also question, why are you not asking your entire class in the class of 20## page on fb?

I think calculus is really hard. And I was a math major. If 111 is differential calculus, then you should be fine–it’s the integrals that are hard (I think that must be 112).

DoryPhory! Ive been studying calculus all day :’(
