Caldwell/SGU-Seven year combined BS/MD

Can anyone give your thoughts, regarding the Caldwell /SGU BS/MD seven year medical program.

Don’t do it. You are selling yourself short by getting your MD in the Caribbean. I would NEVER recommend a non-US school as the first choice. You owe it to yourself to at least apply once in the states before contemplating this route. If they are willing to accept you now they will be willing to accept you in 4 years as well.

hi, im thinking of applying to the SGU pre med program next year. Im averaging a 3.8 HS GPA with a 1800 SAT score. Im thinking about my chances about getting in, since this progam is great. Also, how many applicants come each year/

I’m pretty much going to echo what mmmcdowe said:

DON’T DO IT. Caribbean medical schools are usually the last resort option, mainly for non-trads, who decided in the middle of their lives that they wanted to go into medicine, despite not having been in college for some time. Unless your situation is like that, there really is no reason having the Caribbean as your first choice. You’re better off applying to U.S. BS/MD or BS/DO programs, and if you can’t get into those, do the normal 4 year pre-med route and then go onto medical school. If you can’t get into an M.D. school the normal way, apply to D.O. Either one of those is a better option if your main concern is to practice in the United States. Again, if you are planning to practice in the United States, you’ll have many hoops to jump through, as Caribbean schools do not usually follow the curriculum for medical schools here in the United states. They will NOT adequately prepare you for your USMLE exams, and these are extremely important when it comes to what kind of specialty you want to go into.
