Calgrant info is wrong- is there anything I can do?

My GPA uw is 3.6, buy I just followed a link on an email concerning my Calgrant, and it has my GPA as a 3.35. I don't know what happened, whether it was a human error by my counselor or a computer error, but is there anything I can do to fix this? I really need all the aid I can get!

Are you applying for the competitive Cal Grant? If it’s the entitlement Cal Grant, you have no need to fret over the difference for Cal Grant itself. The GPA cut off is 3.0 for Cal Grant A and 2.0 for Cal Grant B. If it is for the competitive, though, then yes, speak with your school to find out why a 3.35 was submitted instead of the 3.6 you believe your GPA to be. They should be able to clear it up for you.

EDIT: Your location shows you’re going to NYU? Just a heads up in case you are not aware that you cannot use Cal Grant for any school other than a participating California school. And if you’re that desperate for money to attend, do note that NYU is notoriously bad for giving terrible aid.

My apologies if I’m incorrect.

hmmm well check if it’s your 10-12 gpa unweighted. well, all of the seniors at my school have their 10-12 gpas listed for our cal grants.

Kender- I’m sure that nyu accepts Calgrant because my guidance counselor told me that one of her students who went to nyu used a Calgrant award.

Jello- I checked my transcript, none of the gpas listed on there were a 3.35

Your GC is mistaken – California will not pay a cal grant to an OOS college.

To be eligible for a Cal Grant, you must “Attend a qualifying California college” – see:
[Grants for School, College Grant, School Grants](http://www.calgrants.org/index.cfm?navId=12)

Calmom is correct. Cal Grant is only for qualifying California colleges. You will not be able to use it at NYU. It is impossible. You may want to let your guidance counselor know she is misinformed so that she does not spread this incorrect information to others.

Perhaps there was some miscommunication – maybe the guidance counselor was talking about a Pell grant, not a Cal grant … and one or the other of the people in the conversation simply heard wrong. (I can see someone saying “pell” and thinking they heard “cal”, or the other way around).

Ah, that would make much more sense if that is the case :). I do hope that is what happened.
