Hi all- I'm a CCC student transferring to UCSC this fall and was wondering if anybody could give me an idea how to fill out my Transfer Entitlement Certification. I was awarded the CalGrant B Transfer Entitlement, but its on hold.

This form asks when I became a CA resident, but I've got kind of a complicated situation. I was born here in CA but was absent for ages 16-18 (I was placed with legal guardians in Colorado, not for military purposes) and as a result, did not finish high school in CA. I did however complete the first two years here in CA and even completed the CA exit exam.

So, do I fill out my DOB as my residency, or when I returned? I WAS classified as a Colorado resident for those two years. I'm kind of freaking out because they have my CalGrant B award on hold until I submit this information, and I really need this CalGrant to help fund my UC education. I'm worried they wont end up awarding it to me merely because I didn't graduate here, but have literally been here all other times of my life. I already tried calling CSAC and they won't answer, so I'm waiting on a response now. Any thoughts? Thank you very much in advance!

One major requirement for calgrant eligibility is that you have to be a CA resident at the time you graduate HS. I don’t think you are eligible if you were a resident of Colorado when you graduated HS. Did you get calgrant while in CC? Is there some special reason you think you would still be eligible despite not meeting the residency requirement? If so, it is unlikely anyone but the calgrant people can answer your question.

@swimcats- See, thats what I’m worried about. My parents are legal residents of CA and I was/am a current resident of CA, just not at the time I graduated. I didn’t apply for calgrant last year because I wasn’t at a CCC at the time (was still in CO until May). I think I could possibly have a shot with being born here and residing here pretty much all of my life. Not to mention my parents are residents as well. Do you think they could possibly try to award it to me under the competitive calgrant? Graduating from a CA HS is not a requirement for the competitive grant. I suppose all I can do is wait for the response from CSAC. Thanks for your help. :)

@arabrab- I think its where the physical person is…

I’m no expert on calgrant, but my understanding from being on CC has always been that you must graduate from a CA high school. To be honest, I don’t think you are eligible based on this:

Right right, I’m relatively sure I’ll receive the same answer from them regarding the entitlement calgrant, but I’m waiting to hear back on how I should fill this form out so far as residency. And also whether or not I can qualify for the competitive grant, which does NOT require that you graduate from a CA HS. Thanks for your input, swimcats.
