I posted another thread on this before, but nobody answered, so this time ill ask something slightly different...
Can anyone on here who has received a calgrant before please tell me how much you received? I already have a good estimate of my financial aid package and want to see if a calgrant will cover the amount of money that isn't already covered by the school, but I really have no clue or experience about calgrants...
Also, can calgrants be used to pay off student loans and work-study? Thank you in advance.

This is the site to give you all the info. CalGrants can be A or B, B seems to be lower in year one and higher in subsequent eyars, whilst A is level, but the total is pretty similar. Most schools (UCs, etc) will give you a package of federal & state grants plus university grants plus loans plus your EFC.

So, with a $0 EFc, you would still have loans & work study in addition to your grants. The highe your EFC, the lower the federal (pell, etc) grants.

The site above should answer most of your questions.

thanks for your help somemom

well my early action college gave me my estimate already, and i have 5500 in workstudy/loans
i kno that if i get any more outside scholarship (more than 5500) that will just detract from the university grants (kinda pointless for me). that's why i wanted to kno if calgrant would take care of the 5500, or if i'd have to go for other outside scholarships...

there are certain scholarships which do come off the loans portion- for example the Byrd scholarship, campus alumni scholarships, etc may be helpful, it is a school by school ruling.
